Neuropsychological Testing

Specialized diagnostic evaluations for children and young adults with learning, behavioral, and developmental concerns.

What is a Neuropsychological Evaluation?

A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive, specialized assessment that identifies the root causes of a child's learning, behavioral, or developmental challenges — and provides the documentation and recommendations needed to secure the right support. It goes well beyond what most school-based evaluations offer, delivering a detailed diagnostic picture that is clinically rigorous, independently produced, and yours to use across any setting.

We have extensive experience evaluating children across a wide range of profiles, including nonspeaking and minimally verbal children, Level 3 autism, twice-exceptional (2e) learners — children who are both gifted and have a co-occurring diagnosis — and other complex neurodevelopmental presentations that require careful, individualized assessment approaches.

What It Assesses

Drawing on standardized testing, parent and teacher interviews, behavior rating scales, and school observation, a neuropsychological evaluation measures:

  • Intellectual functioning

  • Academic performance

  • Attentional capacity

  • Learning and memory

  • Executive functioning

  • Language

  • Sensorimotor skills

  • Social-emotional functioning

Why a Private Evaluation?

A private neuropsychological evaluation identifies the underlying causes of your child's challenges, clarifies diagnosis, and produces a detailed report you can use to advocate across any educational or clinical setting.

As an independent evaluator not employed by the school or Department of Education, Dr. Ferrera is uniquely positioned to advocate for your child — participating in IEP meetings and, when necessary, testifying at district hearings to ensure that recommendations are understood and implemented correctly.

The Evaluation Addresses:

  • Identifying the root causes of learning and developmental challenges

  • Clarifying diagnosis or educational classification

  • Determining appropriate school placement and programming

  • Informing IEP development and intervention strategies

  • Tracking academic and developmental progress over time

  • Helping parents understand and effectively communicate their child's needs

What's Included:

  • 2–3 in-office testing sessions

  • School observation and/or consultation, when indicated

  • Comprehensive written report

  • Feedback session to review findings and recommendations

  • Available for IEP meetings, school team meetings, and district proceedings including testimony at impartial hearings

Fees

Neuropsychological evaluations are typically not covered by insurance and are billed as an out-of-pocket service. Please refer to our rate sheet for current fees. A Biomedical Add-On is available for families who want to explore the biological factors that may be contributing to their child's profile — see our Services page for details.
