Biomedical Consultation

For parents and adults who want to explore the biomedical approach to health and learning — but don't know where to start.

A biomedical consultation is an accessible entry point into functional and integrative health. It brings together diagnoses, neuropsychological testing, clinical history, and health information to create a personalized plan with clear, actionable next steps — so you're not navigating the landscape alone.

The consultation helps identify what medical testing may be relevant and maps out the most practical path to getting it done. Where appropriate, testing can be advocated for through your existing physician with the goal of using insurance coverage. When a more specialized approach is indicated, referrals to MedMaps providers are available. Some functional medicine tests can also be ordered directly through Dr. Ferrera.

The biomedical consultation builds on neuropsychological testing — whether completed with me or another provider.

If you're asking any of the following, a diagnostic consultation can help:

  • Are there nutrient deficiencies that could be addressed?

  • Would my child benefit from Leucovorin or another B vitamin supplement?

  • Could environmental allergies be contributing to my child's challenges?

  • Is gut dysbiosis driving behavioral or learning difficulties?

  • Could food sensitivities be affecting my child's focus or behavior?

  • Is there a biological explanation for my child's sleep problems?

  • Could inflammation be contributing to learning or behavioral challenges?

  • Are there methylation issues we should be testing for?

  • Could mold, toxins, or environmental exposures be a factor?

  • Is there a metabolic issue affecting my child's development?

  • Could my child have PANS or PANDAS?

  • Is there a genetic component worth investigating?

What's Included:

  1. Records Review — Integration of neuropsychological, psychological, and school records (including IEPs), along with any past functional medicine or physician-ordered testing, medical records, developmental history, and questionnaires.

  2. Clinical Interview — A focused conversation about symptoms, history, current concerns, and goals — examined through a biomedical lens.

  3. Integrated Recommendations Report — A written plan covering learning support, health and dietary guidance, and lifestyle adjustments, with the clinical reasoning behind each recommendation.

  4. Physician Letter — Tailored to your provider: specific test recommendations for a conventional physician to pursue through insurance, or a clinical summary for a MedMaps or functional medicine specialist.

  5. Feedback Session — A call to walk through the report and letter and talk through how to use them with your provider. Included at no charge.

Please note: I am not a medical doctor and do not prescribe, diagnose medical conditions, or order labs independently. Recommendations are designed to support and inform conversations with your medical providers, who retain all clinical decision-making authority.

Can be added to a Neuropsychological Evaluation or Diagnostic Consultation.
